John Hanshaw, Class of ‘72, Hospital Administrator

John HanshawJohn Hanshaw, Class of ’72, was an outstanding wrestler at Sahuaro. He competed in Sahuaro’s very first meet against Tucson High in the 95-lb. class which he won. He went on to wrestle at the University of Arizona lettering all four years and won the 1975 conference championship. John was runner-up in ’74 and ’76 competitions and was also named the Bill Bishop Outstanding Wrestler in both 1975 and 1976.

After receiving his B.S. from the U of A and Masters in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University in Texas, John started his career in hospital administration. His career spans from Tacoma, WA starting in 1982 to Anaheim, CA, San Antonio, TX, and Salt Lake City, UT. His present position is Chief Executive Officer in which John oversees 9 hospitals, 26 clinics, and 9 outpatient centers for Humana in Utah, Idaho, and Alaska.

John’s awards and recognitions include: Friend of Public Health, Trailblazer, CEO of the Year, Distinguished Healthcare Executive, Grass Roots Champion, and Utah’s 100 Most Influential People.

John’s family includes his wife of 29 years, Carol, and children, Lisa, Elly, and Tyler.
